This species of fish is typically found all over but specifically in the Great Barrier Reef. 
 International Distribution 
 The distribution of the Melanurus Wrasse ranges in areas such as the western pacific from Japan to Samoa and Tonga and south to the Great Barrier Reef. 
Appearance 
This species of fish has an elongated torpedo-shaped body with red lines originating at its mouth and extending to the base of its tail. As an adult, the colors are more vibrant but as a juvenile, the colors are a pale blue with feint red stripes. 
Conservation Status 
This species is of the Least Concern according to the IUCN Red List
